Benefit Summary - Clerical Union Roosevelt University and the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPE1U) Local #391 have entered into a collective bargaining agreement that is commonly known as the union contract. In the state of Illinois, employees who are hired into positions defined in the contract must become members of the representing union. At Roosevelt, OPEIU #391 represents all clerical employees who work 17 1/2 hours or more per week. For clerical union employees, there are several employment classes including regular, temporary and special grant categories. Full time positions have a workweek based on either 3 5 hours or 3 7 1/2 hours each week; part time employees are scheduled between 17 1/2 and 30 hours per week. Many provisions of the union contract as well as employee benefits vary based on employment class. Also, each clerical union position is titled, work is defined and pay is designated by job grade. Minimum standards of education and job skills are also established by job grade for all internal and external applicants for clerical union positions. The union contract is negotiated between Roosevelt and OPEIU #391, with the assistance of outside consultants, every three years. However, salary is usually negotiated each contract year (October 1 to September 30). A copy of the union contract is provided to each new clerical union employee during the initial orientation with a Human Resources staff member. Supervisors of clerical union employees also receive a copy of the contract. It is an excellent source of information and should be referenced when any questions arise. Another document, known as the Standard Office Rules & Procedures for Roosevelt University Clerical Employees, outlines work rules, performance expectations and disciplinary actions. This document is also provided to clerical union employees and supervisors at the initial Human Resources orientation. Union employees who need assistance with work issues should contact their union representative. Supervisors who need assistance with work issues should contact the Director of Human Resources. The Director or Associate Director of Human Resources or any union representative can answer general questions on the contract or office rules. This is a general outline and not intended as a contract of any kind.
