Smoke Free Environment
Policies and Procedures | Human Resources

The Illinois Clean Air Act became effective on July 1, 1990. This Act is applicable to Roosevelt University as it applies to “…any enclosed indoor area used by the public or serving as a place of work including, but not limited to, …restaurants, retail stores, offices …elevators, indoor theaters, libraries, …concert halls … educational facilities …auditoriums, arenas and meeting rooms.” Under the Act, Roosevelt must prohibit smoking in all of its public areas, on all campuses, including the lobbies, libraries, lounges, bathrooms, and all of its work areas and conference rooms; fines and other penalties are assigned for non-compliance.

The only areas that are exempt from this restriction are dormitory rooms, since these constitute the “home” of our resident students. No cigarettes or other tobacco products will be sold on University premises.

Those who would like to break the smoking habit may make an appointment with the Counseling Center for an individual referral to an appropriate smoking cessation program.
