Full time faculty, administrators and clerical union employees may be eligible for the disability insurance plans offered by the University. Eligibility, effective date and types of coverage offered are dependent on job classification and length of service.

The University offers two types of disability insurance plans with a provider contracted to qualify short term benefits and provide the long term disability policy and benefits. Detailed information on the plans currently available and the coverage provided by each is detailed on the Human Resources web page. Certificate booklets are given upon enrollment and as updated by Human Resources.

The University is self-funded for short term disability. There is no premium cost to you and if qualified, short term disability benefits are paid to you through payroll. The plan year for short term disability insurance is May 1 to April 30. The amount of short disability benefits is based on job classification, length of service and length of disability. No enrollment form is required for this plan.

The University pays the premium for the fully-funded long term disability insurance on your behalf. The plan year for the long term disability insurance is October 1 to September 30. The amount of long term disability benefits is detailed in the LTD policy. An enrollment form is required for this plan.

Additional information including additional benefit payments, work transition benefit and the survivor income benefit are detailed in Certificate of Coverage booklet distributed to all eligible employees or click here to view this certificate booklet on line (PDF, 136K).

Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) benefits may run concurrently with disability leaves. Click here to learn more.
