Dependents of Deceased Active Employees

Covered dependents of deceased active employees are covered for 90 days under the University's health plan. For coverage beyond the 90-day extension period the following policies apply:
- COBRA continuation is available to all dependents not eligible for Medicare.
- if you had less than 20 years of continuous full time service, your dependents are eligible for COBRA and for conversion to an individual plan if they are not eligible for Medicare.
- if you had 20 or more years of continuous full time employment, your dependents are eligible for COBRA or for conversion to an individual policy if they are not eligible for Medicare, or they may elect to continue coverage, on a reimbursement basis, through the University's health plan until they are no longer eligible dependents (i.e., a spouse remarries; children are no longer dependent).
