RTA/CTA Transit Benefit Program Roosevelt’s RTA/CTA Transit Benefit Program offers tax-free transit to all clerical union and physical resources employees, administrators (full time and part time of 20 hrs. or more per week) and annually contracted faculty members. This benefit allows eligible employees to purchase a CTA Chicago Card Plus, CTA card or a voucher for a RTA or CTA pass through monthly pre-tax payroll deduction. By purchasing your card or pass through this tax-exempt benefit plan, you will save 22% to 40% (based on your federal, state and FICA withholding rates) on the cost of your RTA or CTA pass each month. The minimum monthly deduction is $10.00 and the maximum as set by law is currently $110.00. You may enroll for specific calendar quarters or for the entire calendar (plan) year. If you elect to purchase a transit check, please be aware that RTA or CTA vendors cannot give you “change back” from your purchase. In other words, you must purchase a product(s) such as a monthly or 10-ride pass that totals the exact amount of your transit check or use an alternative form of payment for any remaining balance above the RTA check amount . If you enroll, please note the following information: Your pre-tax transit benefit amount will be withheld from one paycheck each month.
If you enroll in Chicago Card Plus, your on-line account will be credited on the first of each month following the payroll deduction. Your re-usable Chicago Card Plus will be mailed to your home. You can monitor its value on the card plus web site, http://www.chicago-card.com/ . If you have questions regarding your account, you should contact the CTA directly as we do not have access to your account information. You must pick up your CTA value-added card or RTA check personally. Each item has a cash value if it is lost or stolen which dictates this security measure. Cards or checks may be picked up on or after the 20th of each month. For example, a card or check purchased with your November 1, 14 or 30 paycheck withholding may be picked up on or after November 20 (Monday – Friday) as follows.
* Chicago-Gage or Schaumburg must have been indicated on your enrollment form to pick up your card/pass at this location. You may enroll or change your elections quarterly. This includes changing your withholding amount or type of card/pass and adding or canceling future quarter(s). You may complete the form online and then print it or pick up a form at Chicago-room 846 or the Schaumburg H/R information station. Forms and questions should be directed to Chris Korn via phone extension 6932.
An additional CTA form is required if you wish to enroll in the Chicago Card Plus plan. This Chicago Card Plus form should be submitted with the RU enrollment form noted above. http://www.chicago-card.com/pdf/TB_Employee_Enrollment_Form.pdf Your current election form dictates your program participation. If you enroll for all four quarters, your participation will continue in subsequent years unless a new enrollment form is submitted. If you enroll for selected quarters, we will only order checks/cards for the quarters elected on your most current enrollment form. For example, if you elected withholding in January, February and March only, you will not be automatically enrolled for the next quarter that begins in April. If you have questions regarding this benefit, please contact Chris Korn at extension 6932. |
