Tuition Exchange
Administrators | Human Resources

This reciprocal scholarship program permits the children, including the children of a qualified domestic partner, of full time faculty and administrators to attend other institutions of higher education, if accepted, that participate in the exchange program on a tuition free basis. To receive this award, you (on behalf of your child) must apply for and receive approval for an export scholarship from Roosevelt University (your “employed, home or host institution”) and your child must be awarded an import scholarship from the receiving institution where s/he wishes to attend as a student.  This two-part application and approval process is also referred to as certification in the first year and re-certification in subsequent years.

Eligibility

To be eligible to participate in tuition exchange you must be an administrative or faculty employee who has served continuously as a full time Roosevelt University employee for at least the last five years. The children of such employees are eligible for the Tuition Exchange program.

Amount of Tuition Benefit to be Granted

An employee eligible for this program may be awarded up to 8 semesters (or equivalent as determined by the Tuition Exchange Program). This limitation is per employee, regardless of the number of his or her children.

Priorities

Export applications must be submitted no later than October 1 for the following academic year.  Employees must reapply by October 1 for recertification for the following academic year.  Scholarships approved in one year do not guarantee scholarship awards in subsequent years.

Scholarship Awards

Export scholarships from Roosevelt University will be awarded based on the availability of Tuition Exchange credits, incumbency in the program and length of service.  Annual re-certification will be based on these factors as well as maintaining active, full time employment as a faculty or administrative employee.

The companion import scholarship eligibility, policies, procedures, timing and approval for children of RU employees is determined at the sole discretion of the receiving institution.

Tips for Obtaining an Import Scholarship

As noted above, being approved for a TE export scholarship by RU is only half of the award approval process.  To afford you and your child the best opportunity of a TE import award approval from the receiving institution, please consider the following actions:

Begin researching import institutions that your child may wish to attend prior to his/her senior year in high school.  You may discover institution and TE import application requirements that can increase your chances for obtaining an import award.

Visit the Tuition Exchange web site early and often at www.tuitionexchange.org. The list of participating institutions is updated regularly.  Please note that institutions may also be placed on probation or removed if they do not maintain a balance of award credits so it is important to check the member list regularly.

Review the section on the TE web page entitled, “Information for Parents and Their Children.”  The frequently asked questions section provides an excellent overview of the program.

Take advantage of the “Conducting a School Search” feature on the parent/child page.  This search feature allows you to obtain information regarding the amount of TE import awards, TE application deadline, percentage of import applicants who receive scholarships and, in some cases, an overview of the institution.  There is a link to each institutions home page as well.

Before your child applies for admission, talk to the admission counselor and/or the TE liaison officer at the importing institution regarding the TE award process, criteria and application deadlines.  If you have difficulty finding the name of the liaison officer of an importing institution, please contact Sue in Human Resources at 4331 or by e-mail at sfay@roosevelt.edu.

Consider having your child apply for admission at several TE importing institutions that award a higher percentage of scholarships each year.  This can be determined by using the “Conducting a School Search” feature.

Once you have identified your TE institutions, submit your RU export application as soon as possible prior to October 1.

Your child may apply for admission prior to a decision regarding your TE award.  If you receive approval for TE export scholarship(s) from RU in October and your child has not yet applied, have your child submit all admission documents to the importing institution(s) immediately.  Importing institutions may have numerous TE award criteria and often a TE import application will not be considered or may even be denied if your child’s school application process is incomplete.

If you have any questions regarding this program, please contact Sue in Human Resources at (312) 341-4331.
