Disability Insurance Full time faculty, administrators and clerical union employees may be eligible for the disability insurance plans offered by the University. Eligibility, effective date and types of coverage offered are dependent on job classification and length of service. The University offers two types of disability insurance plans with a provider contracted to qualify short term benefits and provide the long term disability policy and benefits. Detailed information on the plans currently available and the coverage provided by each is detailed on the Human Resources web page. Certificate booklets are given upon enrollment and as updated by Human Resources. The University is self-funded for short term disability. There is no premium cost to you and if qualified, short term disability benefits are paid to you through payroll. The plan year for short term disability insurance is May 1 to April 30. The amount of short disability benefits is based on job classification, length of service and length of disability. No enrollment form is required for this plan. The University pays the premium for the fully-funded long term disability insurance on your behalf. The plan year for the long term disability insurance is October 1 to September 30. The amount of long term disability benefits is detailed in the LTD policy. An enrollment form is required for this plan. Please refer to specific benefit descriptions and Certificate booklets for the details of the short term disability insurance and long term disability insurance plans. Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) benefits may run concurrently with disability leaves. Click here to learn more. |
