Fast-Track Degrees for Adults:

Overview of Curriculum

The Bachelor of Professional Studies (BPS) and Bachelor of Liberal Studies (BLS) Fast-Track degrees offer innovative educational curriculums designed with the adult learner in mind.  Below is the basic structure of all BPS/BLS degrees:

button copy  Introductory Courses

The first two courses in the BGS and BLS programs are designed to ensure students are prepared for advanced work in upper-level courses at Roosevelt:

  • PLS 201 Pro-Seminar in Critical Skills or PLS 302 Methods of Critical Reasoning (for students with  more than 60 hours of transfer credit or an Associates Degree in Arts or Science)
  • PLS 290 Seminar in Technological and Quantitative Literacy

The University Writing Requirement assures college-level competence in written work. The Roosevelt University Assessment exam (RUA) will help determine which courses, if any, are needed in these areas.

Eighteen majors in a variety of professional and liberal arts fields are available in the Fast Track program. The course requirements for each major are parallel to requirements in other degree programs (i.e., the BPS in Psychology has the same requirements in the major as the BA in Psychology).

Small, interactive, and interdisciplinary seminars provide students with a comprehensive general education experience.

  • PLS 390  Seminar in the Social Sciences (6 credits)
  • PLS 391  Seminar in the Natural Sciences (6 credits)
  • PLS 392  Seminar in the Humanities (6 credits)

Students may waive one PLS Senior Seminar with nine semester hours of appropriate transferable credit in a single seminar area; students with an Associates Degree in Arts or Science may waive two Senior Seminars.

This capstone course is a guided research project on a topic of interest to the student. This project helps students integrate the varied components of their educational experience and reflect upon their chosen area of study.  Many students find it an excellent preparation for graduate study.

  • PLS 399  Senior Thesis (3 credits)

Other requirements of all BPS/PLS degree seekers:

button copy Students must be 24 years of age when they start the program, except those holding an Associate's Degree in Applied Sciences (AAS).

button copy Students must complete 30 semester hours of credit at Roosevelt and maintain a 2.0 grade point average to graduate.

button copy Students must successfully complete a minimum of nine semester hours at the 300 level in the major at Roosevelt.

button copy Students must consult with an advisor every semester prior to registering to ensure that selected courses are appropriate for their specific BPS/BLS major or program of study.
