Inital Advising New students at the undergraduate level will generally meet first with the Program Director, who will do a transcript analysis the general education requirement deficiencies and certification content area deficiencies. The initial advising includes a general explanation of the certification process, the early childhood program, and the advisory process in the College of Education. At this time, a plan will be computer generated outlining the student’s proposed coursework sequence. During the first semester of enrollment, the student will be assigned a permanent advisor who will meet with the student each semester for registration and program review. It is the student’s responsibility to schedule an appointment with her / his advisor each semester during the weeks of advising (November and March/April). Consult the bulletin board outside Room 480 (downtown) or outside Room 517A (Schaumburg) for a posting of the student / advisor list. It will be posted approximately one week before request registration / advising each semester. Undergrad students will be advised in the Advising Center until their advisor transfers the file to the College of Education. This generally occurs when a student has achieved junior status and has taken and passed the Illinois Test of Basic Skills.
