ELED Fast Track Admission and Initial Advising
Thank you for your interest in the graduate-level elementary education fast track program at Roosevelt University. Here are the steps you need to follow to participate in this program.
Step 1: Apply for admission to the Elementary Education program. Once you have applied for admission to the Elementary Education program, you will meet with an Admission advisor who will examine your transcripts. This will determine whether you meet the standards for admission, and provide an initial review of your preparation for graduate study in Elementary Education. Please note that the admission advisor does not determine your eligibility for the Fast Track option; this is the responsibility of the Elementary Education program. Please let your admission counselor know that you are interested in the Fast Track, and tell him/her at which campus you intend to study.
Step 2: Successfully pass the Illinois Test of Basic Skills. Admitted students are NOT allowed to enroll in education courses until they have taken and passed the Illinois Test of Basic Skills. There are no exceptions to this rule.
Step 3: Contact Your Academic Advisor. About the same time that you receive your letter of admission from Roosevelt University, you also should be given the name of an academic advisor within the College of Education. Please contact your academic advisor using email or voice mail, and let him or her know that you have been admitted to the Elementary Education program and have an interest in the fast track option. In addition, let your advisor know whether or not you have passed the Test of Basic Skills, and at which campus you plan to study. Please do not contact your academic advisor until AFTER you have been admitted to Roosevelt University and the Elementary Education program--not before.
Step 4: Wait for your transcript review and a communication from your academic advisor. Before you receive any detailed information from your academic advisor, an official review of your undergraduate transcripts needs to take place. Please give your academic advisor at least two weeks to complete this official review after your initial communication. The first part of your transcript review entails a check for fulfillment of general education requirements. The second part of your transcript review entails a check for a potential middle school endorsement in an appropriate academic concentration. No prior coursework in education may transfer into the fast track option. To participate in the fast track option, you may have no more than two total deficiencies in general education courses. A "deficiency" is an absence of coursework required for teacher certification. Students with more than two deficiencies will need to postpone their enrollment, or participate in the traditional Elementary Education option.
