School Counseling The School Counseling Program prepares students to work as professional counselors in an elementary, middle, or high school. Students are required to take the following courses: Core courses for all students:

Additional course requirements for students without a teaching certificate:
Practica and Internships Practica and internships are located in an elementary, middle, or high school where a variety of counseling services are offered to students. (Hours required: 150 hours for practica; 600* hours for internship)
Certification To qualify for the School Service Professional Certificate in Guidance (Type 73), ISBE also requires satisfactory scores on the Illinois Basic Skills
and Guidance Tests before issuing a certificate. Click here to go to the certification home page for more
