Community Counseling

The Community Counseling Program is designed to prepare students to work as professional counselors in the community agency setting. 

Students are required to take the following courses:
(48 Semester Hours)

• CHS 426 Pre-Practicum: Theories and Interventions In Counseling
• CHS 427 Practicum: Clinical Practice in Public and Private Agencies
• CHS 497 Internship I: Community Counseling
• CHS 499 Internship II: Community Counseling

Practicum and Internship Placements

Practica and internships are located in community agencies which focus on providing services to a select population within the community, such as youth and family services, substance abuse treatment, career counseling, gerontology counseling, and counseling for domestic violence.  (Hours required:  150 hours for practica; 600 hours for internship)

Licensure

This CACREP (Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs)-accredited program satisfies the academic requirements for licensure as a Professional Counselor and Clinical Professional Counselor in the State of Illinois.
