Waiving Clinical Hours for the Bilingual/ESL Program

Students who are currently teaching full-time in the area for which they are seeking endorsement (bilingual and/or ESL)and have been doing so for at least 3 months may request to have up to the full 100 clinical hours waived.

Students who are not currently teaching full-time in the area for which they are seeking endorsement but have done so for at least 3 months within the last five years may request to have up to 50 clinical hours waived.

In order to have any number of hours waived, students must submit 2 letters to the program coordinator:

• The first letter must be a letter from the principal of the school at which the student is teaching or previously taught in a Bilingual/ESL setting. This letter must confirm that the student is or was a full-time Bilingual/ESL teacher and has/had at least 3 months of successful full-time experience in this setting. The letter should also describe the classes that are/were taught.

• The second letter must be written by the student. It should detail the position they have/had, the courses they teach/taught, and their responsibilities as a teacher in that position.
