Web Sites for Student Groups
Web Sites | DoIT

Each registered student group at Roosevelt is entitled to space on a web server for the hosting of the group's web page. To obtain a web account for your group's web site, please ensure the below steps are followed completely:

1. Your group must first be registered with the Office of Student Activities.

2. Once registered, the faculty advisor for the group should complete this form requesting the creation of a web account. The advisor must provide the following information:

  • Name of group
  • Name, phone, and e-mail address of one point of contact. This should be the person responsible for the maintenance of the web site.
  • The point of contact must be reappointed each semester. Appointments and reappointments can be made via e-mail. Include full contact information in both.

3. Upon receipt of the above information, an FTP account will be created on a web server. This account information will be sent to the faculty advisor.

4. Rules for content stored on the server: Web sites for student groups are limited to static HTML web pages (no ASP, PHP, or other scripted pages). Acceptable image formats include gif, jpg, and bmp. Flash may be used. You must name your home page default.htm. Space is limited to 10 megabytes.

5. Roosevelt University respects all copyright laws. Please ensure all information on your site adheres to all copyright laws and fair-use policies. Be careful when using images found on other Internet web sites and make sure what you use is in the public domain. Sites found to host copyright material without permission will be deactivated immediately. Your web site may have any design you like. You may use any of the images found on the Intranet's Image Gallery as well as an RU logo, in colors either black (#000000) or dark green (#003300), found on the U Logos and Fonts page.

6. Backups of web servers are made on a regular basis. To be safe, however, please keep a backup of all files on your computer or a CD/floppy disk. In the event you need a copy of a deleted file, contact the Webmaster.

7. While no support is available for the creation and maintenance of the web site, feel free to contact the Webmaster if you have design questions.

9. Not having a web site is better than having one that is out-of-date. If there is no one in the group willing or able to keep it up-to-date, you may want to consider deleting the site from the server. If you do delete the site, please contact the university Webmaster so the links to your site can be deleted.
