Making International Phone Calls
Telephones | DoIT
When making an international telephone call from a University telephone, you must first be sure that the restrictions of your long distance authorization code will allow you to do so. If you are not sure, please call the Information Technology Help Desk at x6460 to check before you try to make the call.
- To make an international call first dial “9” to obtain an outside line.
- Then dial “011” to place all international calls.
- The next digits are the country code and then city code. For example, England’s country code is 44 and the city code for Manchester is 161. To call Manchester you would then dial “9-011-44-161” to start the call and then the remainder of the telephone number.
- For another example, to call the telephone number 222-092 in Kicevo (city code 945), Macedonia (country code 38) you would dial “9-011-38-945-222-092.”
- Once you have dialed all the numbers, you will hear a beep, if on a single line phone, or will be prompted for the long distance code by text on a multi-line phone. At that time, please enter your long distance authorization code.
