Network Printer Setup Instructions (Schaumburg) Also see:
Purpose:
Naming Convention of Printers: All printers are setup with the building name followed by the room number in which the printer can be found. The model of printer follows the room number. An example of this would be SCH_100_HP4000. In this example SCH stands for the auditorium building. 100 would be the room in which the printer is located. Finally, HP4000 signifies that the printer model is a Hewitt Packard LaserJet 4000. Installation Instructions: 1. Begin by using your mouse to left click on the “Start” then left click on “Run”.
2. A new window, Run, should now appear. Next to the textbox where it says “Open” type two back-slashes “\\” followed by the name of the print server. (Remember the name of the print server is SCHRUPRT01). Once finished left click on “OK” to continue.
3. A list of printers should now appear in a new window, Schruprt01. In order to view the printers easier left click on “View” at the top left corner of the windows and select “Details” by left clicking on “Details”
4. The network printers will now be shown in a list format. You can search for your printer by scrolling down the list. The list is alphabetical order starting with the building code, followed by the room number.
5. Once you have found the printer that you would like to connect to right click on the printer name left click on “Connect”.
6. Your computer will now attempt to connect with the printer. A new window will appear, Connecting to printer_name on Schruprt01, stating that it is searching for the printer. Once the printer has been found the new window will disappear.
7. Verify that the printer has been installed by left clicking on “Start”, then “Settings”, then “Printers and Faxes.”
8. Your new printer should now appear at the bottom of your list of printers.
9. Repeat steps one through eight to add additional printers. Should you have any questions or issues connecting the printer please call the IT helpdesk for additional support. |
