Instructional Media Services

ETRC's Instructional Media Services program is both a collection of services and a specially equipped technology lab available to Roosevelt faculty. The purpose of this service is to facilitate the use of instructional technology in Roosevelt University classes and to help instructors gain skills and knowledge to make the best use of these resources. Listed below is an overview of our services. If you would like to learn more, have a special request, or want to schedule an appointment, please contact the ETRC office.

  1. Data conversion services. If you have instructional materials that you would like to convert into digital formats for use with current classroom technology, we can help with the conversion process. Typically the output files are stored to hard disk, flash disk, CD or DVD. In many cases we can provide a staff member to handle the digitization process for you, but we can also show you how to use the equipment so that you can do the work yourself (which will probably be faster). We currently support digitization of the following types of materials:

    • Documents
    • Transparencies
    • 35mm slides
    • VHS videotapes
    • Audio cassettes
    • Vinyl audio disks
    • Floppy disks
    • ZIP disks

  2. Recording, editing, and mastering services. IMS has equipment and trained staff to assist with the digital audio or video recording of events for use in the classroom. In some cases we can handle the recording process, or we can show you how to use the equipment yourself. We support the following:

    • Lectures
    • Performances
    • Podcasts
    • Instructional video
    • Special events

  3. Copying services. If you'd like to make multiple copies of digital materials for your students (such as CDs and DVDs), we can provide some copying and mastering services. Large-scale duplication will be outsourced and any costs incurred will be passed along to the requesting department. All duplication requests must be in full compliance with copyright law.

  4. Hardware and software evaluation. The IMS office will occasionally acquire demo versions of hardware and software of potential use in the classroom. All faculty are welcome to visit the IMS lab to learn more about these tools and try them out in their classes. In some cases IMS will sponsor organized demonstration sessions for interested faculty.

  5. Technical training. We can provide one-on-one hands-on training to faculty in the use of the hardware and software tools owned by the University. Contact us for an appointment.
