Classroom Technology The Educational Technology Resource Center (ETRC) schedules and manages technology installed in university classrooms, plans and directs classroom technology upgrades, and delivers equipment as required for both instructional and non-instructional purposes. ETRC acquires, manages, and makes available to faculty and staff a wide variety of equipment for computing and data projection, audio and video playback, and digital data processing, and provides training in the use of this equipment. Service requests should be submitted on the ETRC Web site located at http://www.roosevelt.edu/doit/etrc. Please note that the supply of equipment is limited and items are supplied on a first-come first-served basis. The Director of the ETRC is Al Nagy, who can be reached at anagy@roosevelt.edu or 312-341-3654. An Assistant Director is responsible for ETRC operations at each campus. At the Chicago campus (Auditorium and Gage buildings) contact Holly LaPorte at hlaporte@roosevelt.edu or 312-341-6378. At the Schaumburg Campus the contact person is David LaPorte, who can be reached at dlaporte@roosevelt.edu, or 847-619-7292. Internet Access in the Classroom Each classroom at the University has a live connection to the Internet which can be used with equipment either installed in the classroom or provided for use in those spaces by ETRC. The use of instructor or student personal laptops is also supported. Wireless network access is available selectively at some locations -- for more information see http://www.roosevelt.edu/doit/wireless/. Classroom Technology Configurations Computing and display equipment has been installed in many university classrooms. The configuration of these rooms varies and upgrades are ongoing; for details see http;//www.roosevelt.edu/doit/etrc/classroomtech.htm. Standard Technology Classrooms are equipped with a ceiling-mounted projector, audio and video playback equipment, powered speakers, and Internet access. Computers are not included as part of these installations but connections are available for use with personal laptops or, for instructors who do not have their own mobile computers, equipment supplied by ETRC. Full-time faculty have the option of receiving a laptop computer in lieu of a desktop computer upon arrival at the university or when their current machine is replaced according to the normal computer replacement cycle. For maximum convenience, DoIT strongly recommends that instructors who wish to used computers in the classroom opt for a laptop. For more information on using computers in the standard classrooms see http://www.roosevelt.edu/doit/etrc/laptops.htm. Extended Technology Classrooms are built around a lectern housing a computer and monitor, VCR, DVD player, in some cases a document camera ("Elmo"), and a connector enabling optional use of a laptop computer. The lectern is wired directly to the Internet, a ceiling mounted video projector, and high fidelity sound system. School directors, department chairs, and Deans should submit requests for extended technology classroom usage at the same time that the class schedule is being prepared. Also available are Computer Classrooms, which provide a computer workstation for each student as well as display and playback equipment for the instructor. More information on these facilities are available at http://www.roosevelt.edu/doit/ach07-08/compclass.htm. Technology-equipped classrooms are sometimes available for occasional use during the semester. Such requests should be made to the ETRC with as much advance notice as possible. For more details you may contact Holly LaPorte, ETRC Operations Coordinator, at hlaporte@roosevelt.edu, or 312-341-6378. [Rev. 17 September 2007] |
