Voter Registration

Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, “Let us never forget that government is ourselves and not an alien power over us. The ultimate rulers of our democracy are not a President and senators and congressmen and government officials, but the voters of this country.”  Roosevelt students, as well as faculty and staff, are encouraged to register to vote and participate in elections - either in Illinois or by absentee ballot.

According to Illinois law, you must register to vote at least 28 days prior to each election to be eligible to vote in that election.  You must also be a US citizen, at least 18 years old by the election day, and a resident of the precinct at least 30 days prior to election day.  Be sure to have two forms of ID (one must have your current address and could be a utility bill, paycheck or bank statement).

The deadline for Illinois voter registration was Oct. 7 for the Nov. 4 elections.  Illinois residents who missed this deadline can still register at their county clerk's office in person though Oct. 21.

Voter registration opportunities:

  • "Motor voter" registration forms for the State of Illinois are available on campus in the Office of the Registrar: AUD Room 124 at the Chicago Campus and Room 120 at the Schaumburg Campus.

  • Register to vote at any public library, driver's license facility or city, village or township office.
  • Access Illinois voter registration forms from the Illinois State Board of Elections at www.elections.state.il.us

  • Visit www.studentvote.org to prepare a voter registration form for any state that can be mailed
  • The National Mail Voter Registration Form allows you to register to vote from anywhere in the US. You may access this form at www.fec.gov/votregis/vr.shtml
