Meet the Staff
Counseling Center

Clinical Staff

Jeanette Simon, Psy.D.
Interim Director

A licensed clinical psychologist, Dr. Simon received her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology in Chicago. She holds a M.A. in Counseling from Michigan State University and a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. Dr. Simon is also certified as a substance abuse counselor (C.A.D.C.). She has practiced in a variety of settings over the past 20 years, including outpatient, inpatient and residential. Dr. Simon's affiliations include the American Psychological Association (APA), Division 17 (Counseling Psychology), Section 10 (University Counseling Centers) and the Illinois Alcohol & Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association (IAODAPCA).

Mary E. Grigar, Ph.D.
Outreach Coordinator

Dr. Grigar received her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Indiana State University after completing her internship training in the Student Counseling Center at Illinois State University. She holds a Master's degree from the University of Kentucky and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She also completed a post-doctoral year of training at The University of Michigan's Counseling Center. Dr. Grigar is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Illinois. Her clinical experiences include primarily university counseling center work which involves a range of services including individual, group, and career therapy, as well as outreach and consultation services. She has also provided psychotherapy supervision of therapists in training. Dr. Grigar is a member the American Psychological Association (APA), as well as APA Division 17 (Counseling Psychology).

Evelyn M. Lee, M.A.
Staff Psychologist

Ms. Lee did her graduate studies in Clinical Psychology at the University of Chicago, Committee on Human Development. She completed a clinical internship at the University of Chicago Hospitals, Department of Psychiatry and a clinical research internship at the Illinois State Psychiatric Institute, where she continued as a staff member on the in-patient adolescent unit. She is licensed in Illinois and maintains a private practice in downtown Chicago in addition to providing services at The Counseling Center. Her current affiliations are the American Psychological Association and the Illinois Psychological Association.

Charles Berry, Psy.D.
Staff Psychologist

A licensed psychologist, Dr. Charles Berry received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. He also holds a master’s degree in school counseling from the State University of New York. He is a certified school counselor in the state of Illinois and has an advanced graduate certificate in personal and professional coaching. Dr. Berry completed his internship and post doctoral fellowship at Western Michigan University and at Northwestern University. He worked as a staff psychologist and coordinated outreach services for four years at the Illinois Institute of Technology Counseling Center before coming to Roosevelt University. In addition to his counseling center work, Dr. Berry has a private practice providing counseling and professional coaching services. Dr. Berry is a member of American Psychological Association, Division 44 (Society of Psychological study for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Issues) and Division 13 (Society of Consulting Psychology).

Sid Anderson, Ph.D.
Staff Psychologist

Dr. Anderson received his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. He also completed a Master's in Human Development at Harvard University. He has practiced in university counseling centers, hospitals, outpatient clinics, and forensic settings for the past 20 years, specializing in the assessment and treatment of adults. In addition to his position at Roosevelt University, Dr. Anderson is on staff at Riveredge Hospital in Forest Park. He is a licensed clinical psychologist in Illinois, and is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Illinois Psychological Association.

Catherine Benoist
Psychology Extern

Catherine Benoist received her Master's of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology and is currently working toward completing a doctoral degree at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. Her past clinical experiences have included working in residential settings, community mental health organizations, and therapeutic day schools. Ms. Benoist's interests include trauma, difficulties in relationships, psychological assessment, and diversity issues. Professional graduate student affiliations include the American Psychological Association as well as the Illinois Psychological Association.

Jennifer Kestner
Psychology Extern

Jennifer Kestner is pursuing her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Loyola University Chicago. She received her M.A. in 2004 from the University of Missouri - Columbia. Ms. Kestner's clinical experiences include university counseling center, community mental health, high school, and inpatient hosiptal settings. In addition to her work at Roosevelt's Counseling Center, she currently works part-time as an emergency room crisis worker, and as a youth worker at a teen center in Schaumburg. Ms. Kestner is a graduate student affiliate of the American Psychological Association.

Melissa Fickling

Senior Secretary

Melissa Fickling received her B.A. in Social Science with a minor in Counseling from the University of North Texas in 2005. She is currently pursuing her Master's degree in Community Counseling from Roosevelt University and is looking forward to graduating in May 2009. After graduation, Melissa hopes to continue working in a university setting as a career counselor. Prior to transitioning to secretary, she enjoyed working as a Peer Advocate, helping plan events to engage Roosevelt University students and introduce them to the Counseling Center and its services. She is a student member of the American Counseling Association (ACA), Illinois Counseling Association (ICA), and National Career Development Association (NCDA).

Joanna Cabaj
Principal Clerk

Joanna Cabaj is a graduate student studying Industrial and Organizational Psychology at Roosevelt University. An international student from Poland, she appreciates diversity and working in a student focused environment. Joanna hopes to work in Human Resources or a consulting company. Joanna’s non academic interests include reading, skiing, horseback riding, and traveling.

Peer Advocates

Andrea Kravitz
Chicago Peer Advocate

Andrea Kravitz is a graduate student in clinical psychology at Roosevelt University and will enter the school's Psy.D. program in fall 2008. She earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology at The Ohio State University in 2006. While at OSU, Andrea assisted with research on the effects of perception on attention, as well the spotlight effect in relation to verbal exchanges. Her professional interests include mood disorders, substance abuse/dependence, and impulse-control disorders.

Michael McCann
Chicago Peer Advocate

Michael McCann is an undergraduate in Elementary Education at Roosevelt. He expects to graduate in 2011.  Michael enjoys helping people; he has taught preschool as well as volunteered with the needy and with children with illnesses. In addition to his work as a Peer Advocate at the Counseling Center, Michael is a Resident Assistant in the Herman Crown Center. He enjoys watching movies with friends and spending time with family.

Purvi Mehta
Schaumburg & Chicago Peer Advocate

Purvi Mehta is a graduate student in Clinical Psychology here at Roosevelt. She received her undergraduate degree in Human Biology with a minor in Psychology from Michigan State University in 2006. She expects to graduate from Roosevelt in 2008 and begin working toward a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with a concentration in Health. In addition to her work as a Peer Advocate, Purvi teaches a FYE course at East West University and works as a project director for the Georgia Free Clinic Network.

Alex Noriega
Chicago Peer Advocate

Alex Noriega is currently pursuing her Master's degree in the Clinical Professional Psychology program at Roosevelt University. She received her Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from Illinois State University in 2006. While at ISU, Alex conducted research examining how attachment styles affect current relationships. Alex has had experience working at inpatient mental health settings and with children. Alex's academic and career interests include eating disorders, college mental health, and couples therapy. Alex's non-academic interests include traveling, exercise, Chicago, and her dog, Roxy.

Elizabeth Orton
Chicago Peer Advocate

Liz Orton is an undergraduate at Roosevelt University and is pursuing her B.A. in Psychology. She is planning to graduate in May 2010 and also to complete the Certificate in Child and Family Studies. Liz is interested in working with children, adolescents, and families. Topics that are of particular interest to her are eating disorders and body image issues. When she is not at school, Liz enjoys spending time with her family, watching movies, and designing websites.

Laurel Walther
Schaumburg Peer Advocate

Laurel Walther is a Graduate Student at Roosevelt University working toward a Masters of Science in Integrated Marketing and Communications (projected graduation May 2008).  Laurel earned a B.S. in Family and Consumer Science with an emphasis in Nutrition and Dietetics from Western Illinois University in 1998.  While at Western Illinois University, she organized a student-run nutrition education program for WIU students.  After graduation, Laurel worked for the Lake County Health Department (LCHD) as a Nutritionist and Health Educator. While at LCHD she developed and participated in a variety of health and wellness programs. Here at Roosevelt, she has special interests in program outreach, event planning and the coordination of student programs.
