Meet the Staff
Counseling Center

Clinical Staff

Susan R. Stock, Ph.D.

Director

Dr. Stock earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Iowa State University, and completed her internship training at the Counseling Center at Southern Illinois University. She has previously worked at the counseling centers at University of Illinois at Chicago, the University of Akron, and Marquette University. Dr. Stock is a licensed clinical psychologist in Illinois, and while most of her clinical experiences have been in student counseling centers, she has also worked in other inpatient and outpatient settings. Dr. Stock enjoys providing a broad range of professional services, such as psychotherapy, consultation, supervision and training, and outreach. Dr. Stock is active in the American College Personnel Association, in the Commission for Counseling and Psychological Services, as well as in the American Psychological Association.

Mary E. Grigar, Ph.D.
Assistant Director

Dr. Grigar received her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Indiana State University after completing her internship training in the Student Counseling Center at Illinois State University. She holds a Master's degree from the University of Kentucky and a Bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She also completed a post-doctoral year of training at The University of Michigan's Counseling Center. Dr. Grigar is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of Illinois. Her clinical experiences include primarily university counseling center work which involves a range of services including individual, group, and career therapy, as well as outreach and consultation services. She has also provided psychotherapy supervision of therapists in training. Dr. Grigar is a member the American Psychological Association (APA), as well as APA Division 17 (Counseling Psychology).

Evelyn M. Lee, M.A.
Staff Psychologist

Ms. Lee did her graduate studies in Clinical Psychology at the University of Chicago, Committee on Human Development. She completed a clinical internship at the University of Chicago Hospitals, Department of Psychiatry and a clinical research internship at the Illinois State Psychiatric Institute, where she continued as a staff member on the in-patient adolescent unit. She is licensed in Illinois and maintains a private practice in downtown Chicago in addition to providing services at The Counseling Center. Her current affiliations are the American Psychological Association and the Illinois Psychological Association.

Charles Berry, Psy.D.
Staff Psychologist

A licensed psychologist, Dr. Charles Berry received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. He also holds a master’s degree in school counseling from the State University of New York. He is a certified school counselor in the state of Illinois and has an advanced graduate certificate in personal and professional coaching. Dr. Berry completed his internship and post doctoral fellowship at Western Michigan University and at Northwestern University. He worked as a staff psychologist and coordinated outreach services for four years at the Illinois Institute of Technology Counseling Center before coming to Roosevelt University. In addition to his counseling center work, Dr. Berry has a private practice providing counseling and professional coaching services. Dr. Berry is a member of American Psychological Association, Division 44 (Society of Psychological study for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Issues) and Division 13 (Society of Consulting Psychology).

Kusha Gujrati, Psy.D.

Outreach Coordinator/Staff Psychologist

Dr. Kusha Gujrati is the Outreach Coordinator and a Staff Psychologist at the Counseling Center. She recently joined the staff at Roosevelt after working at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Counseling Center. She is licensed as a clinical psychologist in Illinois and has worked at a number of counseling centers in the Midwest and on the East Coast. She received her B.A. at Northwestern University and then her Psy.D. (Doctor of Psychology) at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology here in Chicago. She completed her postdoctoral work at Princeton University Counseling and Psychological Services. Dr. Gujrati has significant experience working with university students and dealing with issues related to multicultural experiences, interpersonal relationships, and identity development. She is interested in a variety of mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, identity conflicts, stress management, mind/body issues, relationships, alcohol and other drug use, and suicide prevention. Dr. Gujrati is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), Asian American Psychological Association (AAPA), and serves as the Secretary for the Division of South Asian Americans under AAPA.

Trainees

Timothy Calvey, Psy.D.

Post-doctoral Fellow

Dr. Calvey received his doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology in 2009.  He recently completed his APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship at American University’s Counseling Center in Washington, DC.  His clinical experience also includes training at the University of Illinois at Chicago’s Counseling Center as well as several community based clinics/counseling centers including Howard Brown Health Center and the Claret Center in Chicago, IL.  His clinical interests include working with individuals, groups, and couples.  Dr. Calvey also received a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Counseling from Loyola College in Maryland.  He is a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), Illinois Psychological Association (IPA) and the Mid-Atlantic Group Psychotherapy Society. 

Nicholas McCarley, Psy.D.

Post-doctoral Fellow

Dr. Nic McCarley received his doctorate in clinical psychology from the Illinois School of Professional Psychology.  His clinical experience includes training at the Fantus Adult Outpatient Psychiatry Clinic of Cook County Hospital and the Adult Inpatient Psychiatry Unit at the Edward Hines, Jr., Veteran Affairs Hospital. Most recently, Dr. McCarley completed his predoctoral internship at University of Illinois – Chicago’s Counseling Center. In his clinical experiences, he focused on individual, group, and career counseling, psychological assessment, and outreach services. Dr. McCarley is a member of American Psychological Association, as well as the American College Personnel Association.

Ayanna Abrams, M.A.

Psychology Extern

Ayanna is a 4th year PsyD graduate student in Clinical Psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. She received her Master's in Clinical Psychology in 2008 from The Chicago School, and two undergraduate B.A.'s in Psychology and African American Studies from Syracuse University in 2006.  Ayanna has completed two pre-doctoral externships at Community Mental Health Council located on Chicago's Southside, and Trilogy Behavioral Health Inc. located in Chicago's Roger's Park neighborhood. She is currently a member of the Association of Black Psychologists (ABPsi) and serves as the Chicago chapter Student Circle Co-Chair/Representative. Her interests include working in community settings, with a focus on multicultural psychology and relationships.

Brian Kong, M.A.

Psychology Extern

Brian earned his B.A. in Psychology at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, and earned his M.A. from the Chicago School of Professional Psychology, where he is also currently pursuing his Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology.  In previous years he has completed his therapy practicum at Associates in Behavioral Science, as well as his diagnostic practicum at Bridge View/Challenger Day Schools.  Brian has worked with a range of different clinical populations including clients diagnosed with chronic and severe psychiatric disorders, mood and anxiety disorders, as well as children exhibiting emotional and learning disabilities, other health impairments, and autism. He also enjoys volunteering with various professional organizations including the Music Institute of Chicago, and the National Runaway Switchboard.  Brian is currently a member of the American Psychological Association (APA), the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor (AATH), and Association for Humanistic Psychology (AHP).

Michelle Montero, M.A.

Psychology Extern

Michelle Montero is a doctoral student in the Clinical Psychology program at Roosevelt University.  She has a master's degree from Ball State University where she interned and later was employed at the Youth Opportunity Center, in Muncie, Indiana.  Michelle's experience is with at-risk youth conducting individual, family, and group counseling.  Michelle's areas of interests include trauma, depression, diversity, and issues related to caregiver and compassion fatigue.

Charla Johnson

Senior Secretary

Charla Johnson joined the Counseling Center in February 2009.  Charla earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Chicago State University in Psychology and is currently working toward her MA in Clinical Professional Psychology at Roosevelt University. During her spare time Charla enjoys traveling, reading, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.

 

Peer Advocates

Michael McCann
Peer Advocate

Michael McCann is an undergraduate in Elementary Education at Roosevelt. He expects to graduate in 2011.  Michael enjoys helping people; he has taught preschool as well as volunteered with the needy and with children with illnesses. In addition to his work as a Peer Advocate at the Counseling Center, Michael is a Resident Assistant in the Herman Crown Center. He enjoys watching movies with friends and spending time with family.

Elizabeth Orton
Peer Advocate

Liz Orton is an undergraduate at Roosevelt University and is pursuing her B.A. in Psychology. She is planning to graduate in May 2010 and also to complete the Certificate in Child and Family Studies. Liz is interested in working with children, adolescents, and families. Topics that are of particular interest to her are eating disorders and body image issues. When she is not at school, Liz enjoys spending time with her family, watching movies, and designing websites.
