Chicago continuing education - Roosevelt University

Our Chicago continuing education programs offer something for everyone – regardless of age.

We are a leader in national and Chicago continuing education. Our Chicago continuing education takes place at the Institute for Continued Learning (ICL) in Schaumburg, Illinois. This Chicago continuing education program is designed specifically for the older non traditional student. ICL offers educational experiences in a great location with ample opportunities to meet interesting people. In addition to a variety of short-term Chicago continuing education study groups, you also get the opportunity to participate in a variety of cultural activities that are included in your affordable dues.

Learning for a Lifetime: No Exams, No Grades, No Pressure

Our Chicago continuing education program is designed for adults 50 and over, who have reached the point in life where they can pursue their interests with a group of like-minded peers. The University's provides staff and support services and classroom space for continuing education study groups.

Study groups are offered Tuesday through Thursday, morning and afternoon, 9:30am to 11:30am and 1:00pm to 3:00pm, with occasional offerings at other times. Subjects for our study groups include but are not limited to:

  • Humor
  • Science
  • Literature
  • Genealogy
  • Family History
  • Short Stories
  • Using the Internet
  • Religions of the World

Get value beyond your wildest dreams!

First and most important, you get to participate in study groups on subjects that interest you, attend lectures, field trips, concerts and social activities with your peers. Secondly, you get student discounts at the school bookstore. This includes pricy computer programs that you can purchase at deep discounts. You can actually save enough on your first software purchase to more than recoup your year's membership. In addition, you also have the right to audit Roosevelt University courses at the Schaumburg or Downtown campuses with consent from the professor teaching the course.

And you get all this for $110 for a full 12 months from the time of joining. Additional charges may apply to special events that require bus rental or admission fee, or other expenses specifically related to that event. Events on campus are typically free of extra charge, participation in any special event is the member's choice. You do not receive college credit for auditing Roosevelt courses or attending ICL courses.

If you can find Woodfield Mall, the new IKEA store, or Costco in Schaumburg, you can find Roosevelt, as it is well situated between the three. There is ample free parking (free parking permit needed, which may be obtained at registration for study groups) close to the best door to enter, which, in our case, is Door #3 at the northwest corner of the main building.

Sample field trips have included a visit to the Pompeii and Tutankhamen exhibits at the Field Museum and the annual flower show at Navy Pier.

Commitment to social justice

Since its founding in 1945, Roosevelt University has pursued the mission of providing higher education to students of diverse racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds without quotas or restrictions. In a variety of ways, the University has attempted to apply the values of the two great Americans for whom it is named, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt.

Roosevelt University's commitment to social justice is deeply rooted in its history and is reflected in both its mission and strategic plan.
