Laura Mills, who was recently appointed as the University's first full-time archivist, has begun categorizing documents pertaining to the University's history. She also will be organizing items from the University's Center for New Deal Studies, Chicago College of Performing Arts and Auditorium Theatre. "We've had librarians working on and off in the past on our archives, but this is the first time we've had a full-time archivist whose charge is to pull all four of our collections together in one data base and eventually under one roof," said Mary Beth Riedner, University librarian.

Roosevelt University students Jessica Salazar and Roosevelt Haywood wait to speak at a press conference U.S. Senator Dick Durbin held in the University's Sullivan Room Friday afternoon. The students explained how important financial aid and Pell Grants are in financing their educations. During the press conference, Senator Durbin called on President Bush to approve the College Cost Reduction Act of 2007, which provides $20 billion in additional college aid and includes a provision to cut student interest rates in half. Robert Fitzpatrick, assistant vice president of Campus Safety and Transportation, displays a fake bomb which was planted on the Schaumburg Campus on Thursday morning as part of a drill to test the University's emergency preparedness procedures. Representatives from the Schaumburg fire and police departments and Department of Homeland Security participated in the drill along with students, faculty and staff.

The Center for Student Involvement hosted a Community Service Fair on Wednesday so that Roosevelt students could learn about volunteering opportunities in Chicago. Roosevelt University began the new academic year on Tuesday by holding its annual Convocation ceremony in the Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University. At the Involvement Fair, Roosevelt students learned about the many organizations they can join. It was held Tuesday on the second floor of the Auditorium Building.

The Office of Human Resources held a training class for hiring managers on Thursday to learn about Roosevelt's new hiring and applicant tracking system, PeopleAdmin. PeopleAdmin will streamline the internal processes for hiring managers and provide improved feedback to candidates during the recruitment process.

Colleagues from Roosevelt University joined President Chuck Middleton on Labor Day to participate in Schaumburg's annual Septemberfest parade. Roosevelt volunteers included Vickie Gukenberger, director of Nursing Programs; Jocelyn Yarbrough, senior secretary, Department of Biology, Chemical and Physical Sciences; Michael Durnil, vice president of Governmental Affairs and University Outreach; Toni Potenza, vice president and dean, Schaumburg Campus; Sharon Grant, associate professor, College of Education; Laurie Cashman, director, Administrative Services; Sylvia Sherry, principle clerk, Office of the Registrar; Steve Hoselton, director, Physical Resources; and Lisa Encarnacion, director, University Outreach.

Vicky McKinley, professor of Biology, and Cornelius Watson, chair of the Department of Biology, Chemistry, and Physical Sciences, showed off Roosevelt's science laboratories to State Rep. Maria Antonia "Toni" Berrios (39th District) on Thursday. Earlier in the day, she met with President Chuck Middleton (right) and Michael Durnil, vice president for Governmental Affairs and University Outreach.

Roosevelt freshmen Adeline and Mariana show off the bears they made on Wednesday as part of the Welcome Week events for new students sponsored by the Center for Student Involvement.

Joanne Canyon-Heller and Judy Ebenhoeh, from the Office of Admission, welcome Roosevelt's new students for Fall at the New Graduate Student Orientation in Chicago. More than 400 students attended these events at the Schaumburg and Chicago campuses.
