More than 40 Roosevelt students, faculty, staff and alumni had a great time marching in Chicago's 38th Annual Pride Parade on Sunday, June 24. The colorful parade featured 250 registered entries and was seen by approximately 450,000 people. John Amaechi, a former NBA player who recently acknowledged he is gay, was the grand marshal.

As part of the Citywide Pride activities, Roosevelt University President Chuck Middleton spoke at the Harris Trust and Saving Bank’s Lion's Pride program on June 20. The event was organized by the bank’s Office of Diversity and Workplace Equity.

Stanley Calderon (center) was recognized for his dedicated service to Roosevelt University as a trustee from 1999 until 2007 at the first annual Board of Trustees Dinner on June 14. Thanking him are President Chuck Middleton (left) and Board Chair James Mitchell. Also at the dinner, five new trustees were introduced. They are public trustee Steven H. Abbey of JP Morgan Chase, faculty trustees Sharon Grant and Samuel Rosenberg and student trustees Candice Norris and Brian Bellows.

Peter Fallon, associate professor of Journalism, thanks members of the Media Ecology Association for selecting his book, Printing, Literacy and Education in Eighteen Century Ireland: Why the Irish Speak English, as the Marshall McLuhan Outstanding Book in the Field of Media Ecology for 2007. Fallon was recognized June 8 in Mexico City where he also presented a paper based on the book. Fallon said he was humbled to receive an award named after McLuhan, one of the great media scholars.

The American Harp Society held its Seventh Summer Institute and 17th National Competition at Roosevelt University from June 18-21. Harpists from around the country converged on Chicago to enjoy harp performances, attend workshops and compete in the five recital divisions. Pictured here is Celtic harpist Kim Robertson, a Wisconsin native, who is preparing to lead a master class workshop at the University. Robertson is a renowned performer and instructor who performed an evening concert on June 20 at the Cindy Pritzker Auditorium followed by a reception in our Fainman Lounge.

Roosevelt University President Chuck Middleton received an award from Sharon Gist Gilliam, CEO of the Chicago Housing Authority, on June 12 during the CHA's third annual Partner Appreciation Awards Reception which was held at the University. Roosevelt was recognized for its contributions to residents of the Wentworth Gardens housing project and for its ongoing partnership with the CHA.

Roosevelt University's Future Community Scholars visited with members of Roosevelt's Board of Trustees and Community Advisory Board (CAB) on Monday just before rain washed away the University's 14th Annual Scholarship Benefit Golf Outing in Arlington Heights. Eight students received scholarships of up to $5,000 for tuition and books. In the center are board Chair Jim Mitchell, board member Bob Wieseneck and CAB member Marty Roth.

Roosevelt University President Chuck Middleton joined Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley and other dignitaries at the Tuesday morning grand opening of the Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted Street. The $20 million community center is the nation's most comprehensive center for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Middleton is a board member of the Center on Halsted.
