Legue of United Latin American Citizens

At the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) National Convention, held at Navy Pier July 9-14, Chuck Middleton was featured in a panel discussion, "Strength Through Diversity," which examined societal challenges faced by Latinos in the LGBT, disabled and Afro-Latino communities.

Chicago area high school students participate in Roosevelt's annual Summer Biotechnology  Institute.

Students from several Chicago high schools are participating in Roosevelt’s annual Summer Biotechnology Institute. The six-week program features four weeks of classroom and laboratory work followed by a two-week internship at a biotechnology company or institution. On Tuesday, teaching assistant Rick Smith helped students with a microbiology experiment.

John Cicero (right), new dean of the Evelyn T. Stone College of Professional Studies, was welcomed to Roosevelt at a luncheon hosted by Provost Pam Reid on Monday. Among those greeting the dean on his first day of work were James Gandre (left), dean of the Chicago College of Performing Arts and interim dean of the College of Education and John Allerson, senior vice president of Finance and Operations and chief financial officer.

At an opening reception Tuesday evening, Carol Pyron, administrative secretary in Administrative Services at the Schaumburg Campus, shows off her paintings which are on display in the campus’ Rotunda Gallery.  Sixteen local artists, the majority representing the Art League of Hoffman Estates, have more than 70 colorful oils, pastels and watercolors in the exhibition which runs through Aug. 2.

Roosevelt University administrators hosted a luncheon for the International Visitors Center of Chicago and the Middle East Partnership Initiative on June 28 in the Sullivan Room.  Among those attending were students from Morocco, the West Bank, Bahrain, Jordan and Saudi Arabia who are interns with Chicago area corporations and law firms this summer.

Helen Badesch (middle row center) was the contestant winner at Roosevelt University's Night at Don't Spit the Water! on Saturday, June 23 at the Playground Theater on north Halsted Street.  She and other Roosevelt University students competed against each other to see who could refrain from spiting a mouthful of water as comedians from Blewt Productions performed for the audience.
