It’s a tradition at Roosevelt University’s holiday parties in Chicago and Schaumburg to donate canned good for local food pantries. Laurie Cashman, Mary Gabioud and Pat Harrington hold some of the food items faculty and staff donated at the Schaumburg party on December 13. Harrington is with Journeys: From PADS to Hope in Palatine.

President Middleton joined the Roosevelt University management and clerical union team members on December 14 to sign the four-year collective bargaining agreement between the University and the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) Local 391.  Pictured are:

Approximately 150 hospitality management students in Bill Host’s event planning class and Carol Brown’s leadership and organizational development class worked together on a project to raise money for the Marrriott Foundation for People with Disabilities.  Through the sale of green bracelets, an event at Zentra Night Club and a raffle, the students raised $4,100 for Marriott Bridges which works with young people exiting high school in special education programs.  A reception and check presentation ceremony was held Monday at the Gage Building.  Visiting before the reception were from left Gerald Bober, director of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management; Carol Brown, adjunct faculty member in hospitality and tourism management; Mark Donovan, vice chairman of the Marriott Foundation for People with Disabilities; and Mike Levy, adjunct faculty member in hospitality and tourism management. The Theodore L. Gross Endowed Scholarship Fund for students in the honors program was announced at a luncheon on December 15.  More than $250,000 has already been raised for the scholarship named in honor of Dr. Gross who served as president of Roosevelt University from 1988 until 2002.  Also at the luncheon, a portrait of Dr. Gross was unveiled which will hang in the Congress Lounge.  Standing in front of the portrait are (from left) President Chuck Middleton; Senior Vice Chair of the Board Robert Mednick; President Emeritus Gross; and Board Chair James Mitchell.

Representatives from Roosevelt University and Instituto del Progreso Latino met at the University on Wednesday, December 13 to discuss ways the two institutions can work together to serve Latino students. Pictured from left are Gabriela Arisemendi, Escalera College Bridge Program coordinator; Lesley Slavitt, consultant; Pamela Trotman Reid, Roosevelt’s provost; Mirna Garcia, associate director of Instituto; and Steve Alderson, director of adult education at Instituto. Instituto serves more than 8,000 individuals and provides classes for parents and children, and support services for families.

In celebration of its 50th anniversary, GolinHarris, one of the nation’s largest public relations firms, announced that it is making a $50,000 contribution to Roosevelt University in the name of its founder, Al Golin, a 1950 Roosevelt graduate and a trustee of the University.  The gift will fund scholarships for students in communication.  Pictured at the firm’s 50th anniversary celebration on November 27 are (from left) Fred Cook, president and CEO of GolinHarris, Al Golin and Chuck Middleton, president of Roosevelt.
