ACE Fellows from universities across the country visited Roosevelt University on August 23 to learn about the administration of an urban university dedicated to social justice and inclusion. During their visit to Roosevelt, the fellows met with Roosevelt University President Chuck Middleton (far left) and Provost and Executive Vice President Pamela Trotman Reid, toured the University, and participated in discussions with Michael Durnil, Toni Potenza and Bud Beatty, Roosevelt administrators who are alumni of the program. The ACE Fellows Program is the nation’s premier higher education leadership development program for preparing senior leaders to serve American colleges and universities. Since 1965, hundreds of vice presidents, deans, department chairs, faculty, and other emerging leaders have participated in the program sponsored by the American Council on Education.

High school students completed a two-week program in Hopera with a concert Aug. 17 in Ganz Hall.  Hopera is a new genre which fuses classical and hip-hop music.  The program was organized by Adrian L. Dunn, a Roosevelt vocal and performance major who has written his own hip-hop opera.

Roosevelt University's Institute for Continued Learning (ICL) hosted a conference for lifetime learning specialists from throughout the country Aug. 19-21 at the Schaumburg Campus.  Using the theme, “Learning, Leadership and Innovation,” the conference featured 25 presentations and panel discussions focusing on a wide range of adult education topics.  Here conference chair John Wiese, a veteran ICL member, addresses the participants.

More than 7,500 people filled the streets of downtown Arlington Heights on Friday, August 10, for the fun and festivities of the Mane Event, an annual street fair that celebrates the running of the Arlington Park Million. Steve Hoselton, director of physical resources, was joined in volunteering at the Roosevelt University booth by Michael Durnil, vice president for government affairs and university outreach, Vickie Gukenberger, director of nursing programs, Tom Karow, senior director of public relations, Alice Blomquist, transfer coordinator, and Lisa Encarnacion, director of university outreach.

"Creating Community" was the theme of the Administrative Assembly's annual professional development retreat held Aug. 3 at University Center Chicago. The unique program teaches students how to fuse classical and hip-hop music into a new genre called Hopera.  Composing a musical piece on Tuesday afternoon are (from left) McKinley Byod, Justen Robinson and Rachel Walker.

Prospective Roosevelt University students along with their parents and guests packed the Congress Lounge on Monday for High School Visit Day.  During presentations and tours, our guests learned about Roosevelt's five colleges, financial aid, admission requirements, student activities, and residence life.

The Auditorium Theatre of Roosevelt University is holding its third annual summer camp, Hands Together, Heart to Art, for children 7 to 14 years of age who have experienced the death of one or both parents.  Employing several different areas of the performing arts, the program encourages communication, fosters emotional growth and provides the consolation of friendship and compassion.  On Wednesday afternoon, the campers sat center stage in Ganz Hall to enjoy the talents of mime Chris Fascione.

At the graduation ceremony on Friday for the RU Glamorous CSI math and science camp for girls, camp coordinator Jocelyn Ashford-Yarbrough, senior secretary in the Department of Biological, Chemical and Physical Sciences at the Schaumburg Campus, thanks the parents for their support of the girls during the week-long event.
