At the annual Student Leadership Awards ceremony, held Friday, April 20 at the Schaumburg Campus, Tanya Woltmann, associate vice president for student services, congratulates Vincent Cascio of Crystal Lake on being honored with the Rising Star Award. The award recognizes a student leader who has shown outstanding growth over the past academic year, and is an emerging leader in the Roosevelt community. Leading a workshop at Roosevelt’s inaugural Latino Visit Day on April 19 at the Schaumburg Campus was Roberto Clemente, associate professor, counseling and human services. He spoke to high school students about issues relating to Latino/a empowerment and overcoming day-to-day obstacles. The event attracted more than 120 students from the city and suburbs.

Science Day at Roosevelt University's Schaumburg Campus featured Shekar Mayanil, senior scientist of Molecular Biology and Genetics in the Division of Neurobiology at Children’s Memorial Research Center. He spoke to almost 100 area high school students on "Nano is the NEXT BIG THING—Wishes and Hopes of Nanomedicine." Other discussions focused on chemical science, the Peruvian Amazon, international medicine and career opportunities.

C.K. “Tina” Gunsalus, special counsel in the Office of University Counsel at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and the author of The College Administrator’s Survival Guide, discussed strategies for dealing with difficult people and situations, as more than 100 women in higher education came together at Roosevelt University Friday, April 13 for a luncheon and conference sponsored by the Illinois ACE Office of Women in Higher Education.

Student Appreciation
Week, Roosevelt University's way of saying thank you to students for
attending the University, took place last week at both campuses.
Departments throughout the University sponsored contests and gave away
food and useful items. The Division of Enrollment and Student Services
thanked students by giving away free messenger bags, sling packs and

Students from Taiwan proudly showed off their flag and answered
questions about their country during International Day held April 12 on
the second floor of the Auditorium Building. Dozens of Roosevelt
students from around the world participated in the annual event.

| Energy Awareness Day took place at
Roosevelt University on April 4. Two documentaries, An Inconvenient
Truth and Too Hot Not to Handle, about the environment and global
warming, were shown in the Congress Lounge. Three guest speakers
addressed faculty and staff on issues of global warming, nuclear energy
and environmental justice. From left are Naomi Davis, president of
