Major in Social Sciences leading to a BA degree

This major is offered for students who want the maximum freedom in designing their programs of study and for those who wish to obtain a high school teaching certificate in the social sciences. Although no specific courses are required, students must complete the following:

  • Fourteen courses (42 semester hours) in two to four of the following disciplines: anthropology/sociology, economics, history, philosophy, political science, and psychology.
  • A concentration of five or six courses in one discipline, corresponding to the minor in that discipline.
  • At least six courses taken at Roosevelt, three at the 300 level.
  • No more than six courses at the 100 level.
  • Grades of C or higher in all courses counted toward the major.

Students who complete the requirements for the major in social sciences automatically satisfy the general education requirements in social sciences. All other University and college degree requirements must also be completed. Students interested in the social sciences major should consult with an advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences dean’s office for further information.
