Undergraduate Minor
Women's and Gender Studies

The Women’s and Gender Studies minor complements a variety of majors. While taking courses across a range of disciplines, WGS minors become part of a community of faculty and peers interested in historical and contemporary issues concerning women, gender, and sexuality.
To complete the minor, students take six courses (for 18 semester hours) in a number of different disciplines, including African and African-American studies, art and art history, economics, film, history, literature, political science, psychology, social justice, sociology and women’s and gender studies.

The two core courses, WGS 210, Introduction to Women’s and Gender Studies, and WGS 395, Readings and Research in Women’s and Gender Studies, familiarize students with central issues and key concepts in the field and introduce them to a range of feminist theories.

Four electives complete the minor. Because the WGS minor is interdisciplinary, and because students bring their own interests and goals to the minor, each minor will be individualized. Students may draw on courses that explore one topic across disciplines or that represent a wide range of issues concerning women and/or gender.
