Young Researchers Award – ISSPD – 2009 – New York City

The International Society for the Study of Personality Disorders (ISSPD) offers an award of $1000 (US) plus travel expenses of up to $1000 to an excellent clinical researcher every two years in conjunction with its biannual Congress. The intention is to stimulate clinical research of personality disorders by young investigators throughout the world.

Guidelines

  • Candidates shall either (a) not have passed their 40th birthday by January 1 in the same year as the award or (b) not have been engaged in research for more than 10 years following the end of formal clinical/fellowship training, whichever is later.
  • The Department Chairman or any Senior Researcher/Clinician Researcher may submit the name of a nominee.  Only one nominee may be submitted by one person.
  • Candidates need not be current members of the ISSPD
  • The candidates need only write a brief description of their research, submit 2-3 published or submitted papers, arrange for two letters of support (at least one of the letters must be from a member of the ISSPD), and add a brief curriculum vitae (CV).
  • The prize will be awarded based on a body of work rather than a single paper.
  • More than one author may be listed on the papers, but the candidate must be the first author. It is assumed that the idea for and the execution of the study are clearly and substantially attributable to the first author. Simple administrative or economic support without scientific contribution does not merit signifcance for consideration here.
  • Although the research will not be compared with the work of more senior investigators, special consideration will be given to the originality of the approach and independence of thought evident in the submission.
  • The award for 2009 will be presented by the President of the Society at the XIth Congress of the ISSPD at Mt. Sinai Medical Center, New York City, 21-23 August 2009.
  • The winner will be invited to give a special lecture (20-30 minutes) on his/her work.
  • The registration fee to the conference will be waived for the winner
