APA Accreditation Information

Disclosure of education and training outcomes

Disclosure of the following information is required by the American Psychological Association’s Committee on Accreditation. This information is provided in order to assist students in making informed choices about entering graduate programs in clinical psychology. The PsyD Program has been accredited since 2002.*

Time to completion of program

Average 5.665 years (including internship; includes students entering with BS/BA and MA degrees)

Students completing in less than 5 years: 30%

Students completing in 5 years: 39% (cumulative percentages)

Students completing in 6 years: 45%

Students completing in 7 years: 85%

Students completing in more than 7 years: 100%

(Based on 33 graduates as of November 2008.)

Program costs

Per credit hour: $737

Fees: $150 general fee, $25 student activity fee, $85 CTA U-Pass (general fee only for summer semesters)

Total 105 credits and fees: $68,680

Fee calculations are for 10 semesters (4 fall, 4 spring, 2 summer), including 6 semesters of 12 semester hours of registered coursework. The University now charges a yearly flat rate of $14,730 for graduate students taking 12 semester hours of courses per fall and spring semester. However, students must maintain continuous registration for theses, doctoral projects, and internship. These continuous registration courses are zero credit hours, but a registration fee is charged if students are not registering for other courses.

Graduate assistantships, scholarships, and other financial aid

The PsyD Program distributes three full-time graduate assistantship (GA) positions per year. These positions include tuition remission and a stipend (which varies from year to year, but typically ranges between $5,000 and $6,000). They are frequently split into six half-time assistantships in order to distribute funding more widely. Scholarships are also awarded to students entering with a BA or BS who have strong undergraduate GPAs. These scholarships vary yearly according to the allotment of funds and competition; in the past, scholarships for PsyD students have approximated $1500 per semester for the first 1 to 2 years (renewal after the first year also depends on availability of funds). Additional financial aid information can be found on the University’s Financial Aid Office web pages.

Internships

The table below includes data on how many students applied for internship each year; how many students obtained internships; and how many students obtained APA-accredited, APPIC, and funded internships.

Note that APA accreditation was not always a priority for our students when applying for internship; the priority for many students, due to their family responsibilities, was finding excellent training sites in the Chicago area. Although we believe that students should make APA-accredited internship sites their priority, we also believe that not requiring APA-accredited internships has allowed us to maintain a more diverse student body.
