Clinical MA Psychology Program (Effective 2008)

MA Clinical Psychology 

The following are required courses:

• PSYC 407 Intermediate Statistics
• PSYC 505 Clinical Psychology
• PSYC 516 Psychopathology
• PSYC 520 Basic Clinical Skills (Must be passed with grade of B or better.)
• PSYC 530 Advanced Research Methods
• PSYC 620 Intellectual Assessment
• PSYC 625 Personality Assessment
• PSYC 635 Professional, Legal, and Ethical Issues
• PSYC 690 A & B (Thesis) or PSYC 698 A & B (Practicum) or two-course Concentration Sequence

In addition, students must take two core therapy courses from the following:

• PSYC 641 Cognitive and Behavioral Therapies
• PSYC 642 Insight Psychotherapies
• PSYC 650 Group Psychotherapy
• PSYC 654 Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy
• PSYC 655 Marital and Family Psychotherapy

Finally, students are required to take one elective which must be chosen from 400, 500, or 600 level courses in psychology.

Students may complete additional elective credit. Students often complete additional elective credit in pursuit of a specialized certificate.

• Clinical Child and Family Studies Certificate (Graduate Level)

*Students admitted to the Clinical Psychology MA Program for Spring 2008 or later must follow this curriculum.  Students admitted to the Clinical Psychology MA Program before Spring 2008 may follow this new curriculum OR the curriculum in effect when they were admitted.

Concentration Sequences

Currently, students choose either a thesis or a practicum as their final project.  We now have a third option to our final project list -- Two course Concentration Sequence.

Students who choose this option will be required to choose a concentration theme and complete two courses from that concentration's list.  Courses already completed as therapy choices or as elective credit will not count both as a therapy/elective choice and a concentration sequence choice.
