Health Services Management Managed care. HMOs. PPOs. Health care networks. Medicare and Medicaid. Perhaps more than in any other industry, managers in health care organizations are facing rapid and dramatic changes in the scope, structure, delivery, markets, and finance of their services. To prepare new and experienced health care managers to tackle these challenges, Roosevelt University, through its Public Administration Program, offers a concentration in health care management leading to the MPA degree. Who the Program Is Designed to Serve Roosevelt's MPA program largely serves working professionals, many of whom are returning to school years after earning their last degree. Classes are held evenings and Saturdays. The entire program is offered at two convenient locations: the Loop and Schaumburg. Classes are small and interactive, drawing on the extensive expertise of our students. Instructors balance theory and practice. Full-time faculty are first and foremost teachers and advisors, but they are also researchers and consultants in their fields of interest. The faculty is augmented by adjuncts who are senior executives of health care organizations. Degree Requirements and Courses Offered The program requires the completion of 12 (for experienced managers) or 13 (for new managers) courses. The curriculum consists of core courses in public service management and research methods, specialized courses in health care management, and the completion of either a practicum (field-based problem solving project) or thesis. Current health care course offerings include (consult the catalog for details):
Admissions Requirements Applicants with an undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or higher are admitted based upon previous academic performance and evaluation of a one to two page essay outlining their goals and aspirations in seeking an MPA degree. Applicants with an undergraduate grade point average below 3.0 will be considered on the basis of the above plus additional supporting materials. Faculty Roosevelt's faculty of Public Administration consists of both full-time professors and adjuncts who are mainly working professionals. Although the full- time faculty are involved in research and consulting, they are first and foremost teachers who are interested in their students' success. The faculty is available on a regular basis to consult with students and advise them on their career goals. The adjunct faculty consists of practitioners who have distinguished themselves in their careers.
