Certificate in Public Administration
Department of Political Science and Public Administration

The Certificate in Nonprofit Management offered through public administration introduces students to management concepts in the nonprofit sector. It also provides information on the inner workings of organizations that comprise the nonprofit sector. The certificate program is designed to develop or strengthen students' management and resource development skills. It will provide students with the framework for working in nonprofit organizations.

The Certificate in Nonprofit Management is a three-course program open to both undergraduate and graduate students.

Undergraduate students must have completed Political Science 301 and 60 hours of credit or obtain the instructor's consent to enroll in the courses leading to the Certificate.

One course is offered each semester at the downtown campus.

Courses

PADM 321/421 Nonprofit Sector in the United States

Students will apply important historical theories and markers to real and current situations in the nonprofit sector. Upon the completion of this course, they will have a better understanding of the techniques for running a nonprofit through the exploration of leadership and organizational practices.

PADM 323/423 Program Evaluation for Nonprofit Organizations

This course is designed for the student who is interested in pursuing a career in nonprofit management that will enable them to more effectively review the goals, objectives and activities of a nonprofit organization. Organizational strategies will be explored through the use of Logic Models. Active class participation and attendance is required.

PADM 324/424 Resource Development for Nonprofit Organizations

This course will cover the planning and implementation of marketing and resource development strategies for nonprofit organizations. The course will use the case study approach and draw on examples from social service, cultural, education, and health related organizations.
