Department of Literature and Languages

The Roosevelt MFA in Creative Writing strives to provide its students with the best in creative teaching provided by instructors with strong credentials both in the classroom and in their respective literary fields. Work towards the degree gives students the opportunity to build a literary community that will last well beyond the Roosevelt experience, nurturing the writer for a lifetime. Students are encouraged to find their own style and voice, build self-discipline, learn advanced aspects of craft, and ground themselves in the literary tradition through critical reading of modern and contemporary authors as well as those of earlier periods. Through extensive internship opportunities, Roosevelt students are able to gather real-world experience in careers that will help sustain their writing after the degree. In all, the Roosevelt MFA offers students an intensive writing experience, a laboratory in which to grow the skills necessary to sustain a lifetime of writing, and multiple connections to the professional world outside the university.
