General Education Requirements
Walter E. Heller College of Business Administration

The Degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration is conferred upon regular students who complete a minimum of 120 semester hours, residency requirements and all specific degree requirements listed below.

Students Entering with less than 30 SH (45 Credit Hours)

  • ENG 101 Introduction to Composition (Grade of C or better)
  • ENG 102 Argumentation, Analysis, Research (Grade of C or better)
  • Completion of the University Writing Requirement (See Scholastic Regulations)
  • MATH 116 Finite Mathematics (Grade of C or better)
  • MATH 121 College Algebra (With permission, higher level mathematics may be substituted for MATH 116 and MATH 121)
  • ECON 101 Principles of Economics I (Grade of C or better)
  • ECON 102 Principles of Economics II (Grade of C or better)
  • ECON 234 Elementary Statistics (With permission may substitute MATH 217 or PSYC 200)
  • Natural Science (Excluding Mathematics and Computer Science)
  • Social and Behavioral Sciences (Excluding ECON 101, ECON 102, ECON 234 and PSYC 200)
  • Finite Arts and Humanities
  • Roosevelt Signature Course
  • LIBS 111 Great Ideas I
  • LIBS 112 Great Ideas II

Students Entering with 30 to 90 SH

All requirements listed above for students entering with less than 30 SH except: 6 SH non business electives are substituted for Liberal Studies I and II.

Students entering with more than 90 SH

All requirements listed above for students entering with less than 30 SH except: 6 SH non business electives are substituted for Liberal Studies I and II, and 3 SH non business electives are substituted for the Roosevelt Signature course.

Business Requirements (54 SH)

All Students

Freshmen/Sophomore Requirements

  • ACCT 210 Introduction to Accounting I (Grade of C or better)
  • ACCT 211 Introduction to Accounting II (Grade of C or better)
  • ACCT 201 Business Law I (Grade of C or better)

Junior/Senior Core Requirements

  • BCOM 301 Business Communications
  • BADM 304 Business and Society
  • International Perspective (One of BADM 360, ACCT 337, FIN 354 and MKTG 362; Business elective is substituted if international course is in major)
  • BADM 380 Business Policy (Grade of C or better, must be taken at RU)
  • FIN 311 Business Finance
  • INFS 330 Management Information Systems
  • MGMT 300 Operations Management
  • MGMT 358 Behavioral Science and Organization Theory
  • MKTG 302 Marketing Management (Grade of C or better is required in BADM 380. One D may be used in the remaining junior/senior core courses unless a C is required by the major).
  • Major Requirements (Economics and interdisciplinary majors require more than 18 SH reducing the number of general electives)

Elective Requirements (21 SH):

General Electives which may be chosen from either business or non business courses

Total requirements for BSBA: 120 credit hours.

Additional Quantitative Major Requirements:

Each Major has additional courses which require a grade of C or better

Majors

Each business student must choose a major area of specialization. The accounting, finance, hospitality management, human resource management, management, and marketing majors require 18 SH. The economics major requires 24 SH (in addition to ECON 101, ECON 102, & ECON 234). The interdisciplinary major is 27 SH.

Interdisciplinary Major

Students whose career interests span two or more traditional business areas may complete an interdisciplinary major. This major is 27 SH of which at least 15 SH must be in a single functional area. Students have combined such areas as accounting and finance, marketing and finance, and finance and economics, but are not limited to these combinations, This major must be approved, in advance, by the Chairs of the involved departments.

Course Scheduling

The WEHCBA recommends that students follow the schedule below for the sequential completion of all university, college, and course requirements. Business students must complete all freshman and sophomore prerequisites before enrolling in advanced business courses. Students should start course work in their majors after completing 60 SH. Those who are undecided about their majors should consult an advisor in the WEHCBA regarding course selection. Students seeking an interdisciplinary major should consult the appropriate department chairpersons.

  • BADM 304 Business and Society
  • International Perspective (BADM 360, ACCT 337, FIN 354, or MKTG 362)
  • FIN 311 Business Finance
  • MGMT 300 Operations Management
  • MGMT 358 Behavioral Science and Organization Theory
  • MKTG 302 Marketing Management
  • BADM 380 Business Policy (may be taken only after completion of all above business courses; no transfer credit available)
  • All remaining major, required, and elective courses.

Graduation

A regular student in good standing may become a degree candidate when he or she has completed a minimum of 120 semester hours of credit with a minimum grade point average of C. At least 18 SH in the major must be passed with grades of C or higher, including transfer work. BADM 380 must be passed with a grade of C or better. Only one D is allowed in the junior/senior core requirements (BCOM 301, BADM 304. International Perspective, FIN 311, MGMT 302), unless a grade of C is required by the major.

Residency Requirements

All University residency and quantitative requirements must be met. In addition, at least 30 SH of classroom credits must be completed by Roosevelt university during each students' senior year. Credits by Proficiency and LCEP examinations do not fulfill this requirement. At least 27 semester hours in business courses must be taken at Roosevelt including BADM 380 and at least 12 semester hours in the major.

No more than 30 semester hours earned as a special student may be counted toward the BSBA degree.

No more than six semester hours of Independent study may be applied to the BSBA degree, Independent study credit is available only for subject areas not covered by regular course offerings. All independent study credit must be approved in advance by the instructor, the instructor's department chairperson, and the Dean of the WEHCBA.

Transfer Credit

Credits are accepted only from junior or senior colleges that are accredited by a regional accreditation organization. All transfer students must satisfy the University writing requirements may include taking English 100 and or 219. No exceptions are made. See university Writing Requirements.

Each transfer course is evaluated to confirm that it includes all topics included in the corresponding Roosevelt course, Regardless of title, courses considered inappropriate or not equivalent will not be accepted. Students wish questions regarding transfer credit should consult an adviser in the WEHCBA.

Double Major

Students who wish to earn a double major must complete an additional 18 SH in the second department as well as all of that department's requirements. A student may declare a double major while completing her first Bachelors degree, Usually a double major requires the student to complete more than 120 SH for the degree. Consult an advisor for specify information.

Second Bachelors Degree

To receive a second Bachelors degree, a student must fulfill all of the requirements for the degree, including university, college, major department, and residency requirements, including a minimum of 30 SH. Students are eligible for a second degree only after the first degree has been awarded.
