International Business M.S. Program Requirements
MSIB | Walter E. Heller College of Business Administration

The M.S.I.B. program is 37 semester hours (one credit hour orientation and 12 three hour courses), consisting of 3 parts: 8 core courses, 3 elective courses, and an international experience component.

Core Courses

  • BADM 401 Graduate Business Orientation
  • ACCT 447 International Accounting
  • FIN 454 International Financial Analysis
  • MGMT 403 Quantitative Analysis for Decision Makers
  • MGMT 452 International Business: Environmental Analysis
  • MGMT 453 International Management and Leadership
  • MGMT 489 Strategic Management
  • MKTG 456 International Marketing Analysis

and one of the following three courses:

  • ECON 474 The Economics of Development and Underdevelopment
  • ECON 476 International Trade, Multinational Corporations, and the Question of Imperialism 
  • ECON 477 International Finance and Balance of Payments

Elective Courses

Three additional graduate courses will be selected, either from the College of Business or international courses offered in other colleges in the University. For students without a business background the following courses are required: Accounting 405, Economics 403, and Finance 408. Students adequately prepared for the core courses may complete a concentration in a functional area of business. Concentrations include but are not limited to: Accounting, Economics, Finance, Financial Management, Marketing, and Integrated Marketing Communications. A proposal must be submitted to the M.S.I.B. program director with a solid rationale as to why this focus of study assists the student in meeting career objectives. Serious considerations will be given to challenging and creative concentrations.

International Experience

Each student must participate in some form of international learning experience. The College offers a one-week consulting experience, MGMT 454. Other options are possible with the prior approval of the program chair.
