MBA Program Requirements To earn an MBA from Roosevelt University, you must successfully complete the one-credit orientation course and 12 semester three-hour courses. Students take eight courses at different levels depending on their academic preparation. All students select a concentration of three courses in business or business-related field and one elective. Core Courses Students entering the MBA program with a liberal arts or other non-business baccalaureate degree take all nine core courses. Each course is a self-contained analysis of the stated topic; no prior exposure to the topic is expected or required.
Students whose academic preparation of work experience has given them a certain degree of expertise in a specific subject may petition to take a more advanced course in lieu of a given core course. For example, if you have a BA in Economics, you would take an advanced graduate-level Economics course instead of Economics for Decision Makers. This way Roosevelt ensures that each student's program is customized to his or her academic background and professional experience. A student must take at least six of the core courses; therefore a student will only be approved to make substitutions for two core courses. Concentrations In addition to the core classes, each MBA student will complete a concentration consisting of three courses. Within the Walter E. Heller College of Business Administration, you can choose from many concentrations. Each concentration gives students an in-depth treatment of a specific functional area in business. The concentrations are:
Students are able to select a concentration from other graduate programs within the university. These options create new and innovative alternatives not previously available at MBA programs in the Chicago area. They open a variety of career paths not formerly accessible to MBA graduates. The concentrations include:
Additionally, students may propose an individualized concentration composed of at least three graduate level courses offered anywhere in the University. These proposals must be described in detail with a solid rationale as to why this focus of study makes sense for the student. The college will give serious consideration to any individualized concentration that is challenging and creative. Electives Each student is allowed one elective. This elective must be graduate level course and may be offered through the College of Business or one of the other colleges within the University. The course must be approved by the MBA program director. Of the 13 courses required for the degree, at least 28 credit hours must be from courses offered in the College of Business. If the concentration selected is outside the College of Business, then the elective must be a Business course.
