Dean Terri Friel, DE, PE

Greetings from the Dean

Welcome to the W E Heller College of Business. We are actively pursuing new learning opportunities, new accreditation credentials and new development for the college.  This is indeed a very exciting time to join us!

The current newsletter will inform you in more detail about all the exciting and interesting things we are all doing.  I know you will be impressed with our faculty and student successes!

There are two departments within the College:
  1) Finance/Accounting/Real Estate/MIS (FIRE-A)

  2)Human Resource Management/Management/

     Marketing/Entrepreneurship (HRMMME)

Within these departments you will find faculty who are gifted teachers, accomplished scholars, and distinguished professionals in their fields.  The faculty's pursuit of scholarly and professional activities and their engagement in community, civic and cultural affairs enriches the intellectual lives of our students and the university community as a whole.

To enhance learning opportunities, the college is developing opportunities for students to intern in a variety of ways, travel overseas, interact with mentors and network with business people.  These are all necessary for the development of the skills for professional success of our graduates.  We hope you will seek out and participate in some or all of these opportunities as they are announced.  In addition we have joined the UN-PRME (United Nations initiative for the Principles of Responsible Management Education) and we are preparing for an application for preaccreditation status to the AACSB in the Fall of 2010.  These two institutions represent the highest standards for business schools in the world.

This year we expanded our advisory council and this has accelerated the activities in the college and the recognition of our students.  In addition we have begun working on several collaborative opportunities with domestic and international partners as well as some new grant applications.  Finally, a group of motivated faculty and students have formed a colony for the Alpha Kappa Psi national business fraternity and recently made an application for acceptance as a chapter.  I think you can see that we are very actively involved in the development of a vibrant knowledge community geared toward student career success.

I hope you will be a part of the Heller College of Business community as we help prepare the world's next generation of leaders and citizens for the challenges of the twenty-first century.

Yours sincerely,

Terri Friel, PE

Dean
