Meet the Staff |
Presented to Terry Peterson MPA, ’95 In recognition of his professional distinction There is an extremely positive force at work in Chicago’s communities these days. His name is Terry Peterson, and we see the results of his dedication to revitalize our neighborhoods and provide affordable housing to every citizen, every day. In June of 2000, Terry was appointed Chief Executive Officer for the Chicago Housing Authority by Mayor Richard M. Daley. As CEO he is responsible for the CHA’s ten-year, $1.5 billion Plan for Transformation. And under his guidance, the city has made impressive strides toward rehabilitating and constructing 25,000 units of public housing that are safer, physically sound and extend economic opportunities to residents. Terry’s commitment to public service in Chicago began as he served as Alderman for the 17th Ward. During this time, he was also active within the City Council, serving on eight separate committees addressing vital neighborhood issues, from crime to housing and development. And as Assistant Commissioner in the Chicago Department of Planning and Development he oversaw redevelopment initiatives surrounding Cabrini-Green and Henry Horner public housing, helping to rebuild communities with parks, schools, libraries, police stations and shopping centers. Today, Terry also serves on the National Advisory Board of Fannie Mae, one of the country’s premier affordable housing and community development corporations. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the The Council of Large Public Housing Authorities (CLPHA), an organization that researches and advocates public policy that ensures the preservation and improvement of public housing programs. We’re proud to say that thanks to Terry Peterson’s distinguished career in public service, the City of Chicago is a better place to live for us all. And we’d like him to know he’ll always have a home here at Roosevelt. The Harold Washington Professional Achievement Award goes to an alumnus/alumna who has achieved professional distinction. |
