The Party
Academic Advising and Assessment

This game is designed to assist you in matching your interests and skills with similar majors and careers. Below you will read six (6) descriptions of personality. Think about which ones most closely match your interests and the things you would enjoy discussing with your co-workers.

  • You have walked into a room where a party is taking place. In each corner of the room a group is talking. Each group is talking about something different. Read each of the descriptions and decide which group you would like to talk with first. This group should be the one you find the most interesting.
  • After a little while your group decides to leave for another party. Of the remaining groups, which group would you join next? (It must be a group you find interesting.)
  • Once again your group leaves. Of the remaining groups, which group would you now join? (You will join it because you find it interesting.)

Write down the letters for the three groups you found most interesting. This is your three letter code that makes up your interests. It is called your Holland Code. Dr. John Holland developed a theory that said people who worked in environments that most closely resembled their personality were the most content. At the bottom of the page are links to help you choose a major and a career by using this code.
