Academic Advisors work to strengthen the importance, dignity, potential, and unique nature of each individual served within the academic setting.

Academic Advising and Assessment serves all undergraduate students who are either new (with certain exceptions), undecided, on academic probation, have been reinstated, or have not yet met the requirements to be seen by their major departments. Students need to be seen by an advisor every semester before they can register.

Academic Advising and Assessment is a department within the Division of Enrollment and Student Services and, as such, shares the same mission. The staff of Academic Advising and Assessment also works to:

• Serve as an advocate for students’ educational achievement. Provide timely, proper and accurate curricular information to students. Assist students in developing, clarifying and evaluating their educational plans that are compatible with their goals. Advise students into the correct courses. Listen to student concerns. Foster a trusting relationship with students. Retain students and help them persist towards graduation. Establish a partnership with students to provide guidance in an effort to enhance educational growth and inspire independent seekers of knowledge in an educational environment.
  
• Help students navigate the University system. Students will learn to resolve conflicts by becoming familiar with the organization and policies of the University. Students will learn to work closely with faculty and other offices within the University. Students will also establish and maintain relationships with departments to understand changes within their academic major. Students will become sufficient in monitoring the successful completion of their academic program.
  
• Advocate for the development and implementation of programs and services that are compatible with students’ academic needs. Ensure that all students, especially those that are undecided and at-risk, participate in programs – such as orientation and academic success programs – and fully understand their academic challenges in math and English based on the results of the Roosevelt University Assessment.
