Roosevelt University has two campuses. The downtown campus occupies the National Historic Landmark, Auditorium Building, designed by Adler and Sullivan and completed in 1890.  It is one of many architecturally innovative structures which initiated a highly creative developmental phase in the late 19th century America.  The distinctive grandeur of those buildings has inspired artists and artisans and brought world recognition to Chicago.  Students of music have access to Symphony Hall, home of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, many of whose members are instructors at Roosevelt.  The Auditorium Building has a newer addition which houses a full Room and Board Residence Hall and Cafeteria.

The Albert A. Robin Campus was opened in the Northwest suburb of Chicago in 1996.  Close to O'Hare International Airport, it offers a full range of classes during the day, evenings and weekends.  Classrooms included state of the art science facilities.  Another feature of the Robin site is its proximity to the corporate community of Schaumburg-Woodfield, the fourth largest commercial corridor in the United States.

English Proficiency

An English proficiency test is not required for admission to Roosevelt University. However, proficiency in English must be demonstrated before academic work in any of the five colleges of the university can be taken. A non-native English speaker can demonstrate proficiency by:

  • Submitting standardized test scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), from the International English Language Testing Service (IELTS), or by taking the Roosevelt University English Language Program placement test. Minimum scores required on the TOEFL are 550 (213 computer based), along with 4.5 or higher on the Test of Written English (TWE). Minimum IELTS scores are 6.5 on both the overall band and academic writing sections.

An applicant who does not submit results from the TOEFL or IELTS, or whose scores are lower than the above minimums, can demonstrate English proficiency by

  • Taking the Roosevelt University English Language Program (ELP) placement test.
Depending on the results from this placement testing, a student may be required to take English language courses before beginning his or her academic work. It should be noted that these English language courses are likely to extend the time necessary to complete a degree at Roosevelt by up to three semesters. In such cases, student visas and I-20s will be adjusted accordingly.
  • Completing 30 or more semester credit hours, including the equivalents of Roosevelt’s English 101 and 102, at a North American college or university in which English is the language of instruction.
  • Completing four consecutive years of secondary education in a North American high school in which English is the language of instruction.
