6. May I use my Roosevelt e-mail account for personal communications not related to my work at Roosevelt University?

You may use Roosevelt e-mail only for communications connected with your work at Roosevelt, and with your research and scholarship relating to your teaching at Roosevelt. The university does not prohibit the use of its computer and network resources for limited personal activities, but any such personal use must conform with university policies as specified in the Computer and Network Usage Policy and must not interfere with the university’s primary goals of supporting teaching, learning, research, and service.

7. What are Roosevelt’s expectations regarding e-mail communication with students?

It is expected that your syllabus will state your availability for communication with students at on-campus office hours, by telephone, and by e-mail. You should state either in your syllabus or in other materials distributed during the first week of classes the kind of communication that students may engage with you via e-mail and how promptly they may expect to receive responses.

College Dean’s offices should be consulted for more specific guidelines.

8. If I stop teaching at Roosevelt, will my account be terminated?

Yes. Accounts are purged in August of each year. If you have not taught a course during the previous academic year, your account will be deleted.

E-mail accounts are provided with 10 MB of storage space. Requests for more storage are considered on a case-by-case basis. To make such a request, click here.

Roosevelt’s e-mail server runs virus protection software that is updated on a regular basis. It is possible, but unlikely, that you will contract a virus through your Roosevelt account. In order to avoid viruses spread by e-mail attachments, all Roosevelt account holders are expected to follow the following rule: ‘Never open an e-mail attachment that you are not expecting to receive, even if it is from someone that you know.’

If you believe that you have contracted a virus from Roosevelt e-mail or if you receive suspicious looking messages, contact the Help Desk immediately at 312-341-6460.
