FUNDAMENTALS OF ACTING I (Acting without fear. Lose your inhibitions!) THAR 206
Live the dynamics of the actor’s art. Focus on individual self-awareness, spontaneity and expressiveness. Students will explore the world of theatre by developing basic acting skills through improvisational exercises. Student engage in small group experiences and explore creative forms of communication. Exercises are followed by opportunities for individual reflection including attending theatre performances and writing critiques. MUSIC AND SOUND IN FILM HISTORY (Like Film Soundtracks? Have some favorites? Open your ears and mind.) MUHL 225
Films achieve their effects with sound as well as images. Examine music and sound in the context of representative films from the last one hundred years of film history. Focus on narrative films produced in Hollywood. Learn and analyze a soundtrack in relation to the film’s image track. Explore the various contributions of music and sound to film form and style. Find out about the stylistic, aesthetic, and technological developments in the history of Hollywood films. No prior experience with music or cinema courses required. The main requirement is a willingness to listen carefully and to articulate what you hear.

BEGINNING PIANO (You always wanted to play, didn’t you?) MUSC 115-07
Designed for non-music majors with no experience in piano, this course is unique in that it may be repeated for credit; maximum credit six hours. Learn to play piano in a fun group setting! Class instruction in basic performance/musicianship skills takes a comprehensive approach to functional musicianship at the keyboard. Learn to play a varied repertoire. Skills will include sight-reading, harmonization from lead sheets, ear training, and playing in an ensemble setting.
