Musical Theatre alumna on national tour of Evita takes stage in Chicago

When Andrew Lloyd Weber’s Evita opens on Wednesday, Sept. 18 at the Oriental Theatre in Chicago, a Roosevelt University graduate will be on stage singing and dancing for much of the show.

Katie Huff, a 2010 graduate of the Theatre Conservatory’s Musical Theatre program, is in the Evita ensemble and also is an understudy for one of the show’s supporting roles. The national tour of Evita will run through Oct. 6 at the Oriental Theatre in Chicago before traveling to more than a dozen other U.S. cities through July 2014.

Since graduating, Huff has had several roles and has been an ensemble member in a number of productions at Drury Lane Theatre in Oak Brook, Ill.

Her latest effort with the ensemble of the new national tour of Evita is shaping up to be a fantastic experience and a big break for the Roosevelt alumna who credits her Theatre Conservatory professors and mentors for preparing her for professional acting, singing and dancing.

“The professors at Roosevelt expect excellence and professionalism and that was the best lesson I could have received,” said Huff, who recently moved to New York City where she will be auditioning both on and off Broadway.

Luis Perez, head of musical theatre at Roosevelt, and Bonnie Shadrake, music director and accompanist in the Theatre Conservatory, agree that Huff is “a true triple threat – a beautiful dancer, sparkling singer and exceptional actress.”

“On top of that, she is quality human being whose grace, dedication and infectious spirit infuse everything she does with joy and excellence,” said Shadrake.

Huff is making the most of the national tour.
“I’ve been able to work with a group of incredible singers and dancers and I’m learning so much not only from the creative team but from my fellow cast members,” she said.
