Bonnie Gunzenhauser has been appointed Interim Dean of Roosevelt University’s College of Arts and Sciences, succeeding Lynn Weiner who stepped down to become University Historian.
Gunzenhauser is recognized for her distinguished scholarship and teaching and for her ability to work collegially with faculty in all academic disciplines. An expert on the way literacy shapes political identity both in eighteenth-century Britain and today, she joined Roosevelt in 2003 and has held multiple faculty and administrative positions throughout her time at Roosevelt.
Gunzenhauser previously was associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, chair of the Department of Literature and Languages from 2005-12 and was assistant director of English Composition from 2003-05. In addition, she was a scholar-in-residence at Chicago’s Newberry Library from January 2010 to June 2012.
She received a BA in English, philosophy and political science from Luther College and an MA and PhD in English from the University of Chicago.
"The College of Arts and Sciences has a tremendously talented faculty and a deep commitment to Roosevelt's students” Gunzenhauser said. “I look forward to working with my colleagues in the College and across the University to enhance the educational experience we offer and to develop new and creative ways to advance Roosevelt's remarkable mission."
With more than 3,000 students, the College of Arts and Sciences is Roosevelt’s largest college. As its head, Gunzenhauser will oversee 125 faculty members as well as bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral level programs at the University’s Chicago and Schaumburg campuses.
