On Jan. 25, the first day of spring semester classes, Roosevelt University is unveiling a modern new logo, updated seal and redesigned website that will present the University in a fresh and authentic manner.
A distinctive, modern-looking R logo is replacing the University’s current logotype. With its intersecting blend of greens and its unique folds, the new logo speaks to the ideas of diversity and community, important components of what the University stands for. “In the not-too-distant future, people will see the R and know immediately that it’s us,” said Roosevelt University President Chuck Middleton.
A new updated seal, with its emblematic torch, conveys the University’s rich history and tradition. The University’s founding in 1945 and Eleanor Roosevelt’s words “Dedicated to the Enlightenment of the Human Spirit” are included. The new seal will only be used on formal documents like Commencement diplomas.
Roosevelt’s website is being completely redone to make it more dynamic, interactive and better organized. Prominently displayed on Roosevelt’s homepage, www.roosevelt.edu, will be a rotating gallery of student stories and photos that capture the excitement of life at the University.
In December, Roosevelt presented a new sports logo that combines an R with waves, giving Roosevelt’s new intercollegiate athletics program both movement and energy. The new sports logo will be on Roosevelt Lakers uniforms and other sports merchandise for the athletics program. It also will appear on promotional materials and business cards. “It’s given the athletics department a face,” said Mike Cassidy, director of the Office of Intercollegiate Athletics.
The new logo, updated seal and sports logo were designed by Chicago-based Studio Blue, a graphics designer that has worked with educational and cultural institutions all over the country. The University’s new website is being created by Chicago-based mStoner, a communications consultant that also has worked with educational institutions nationwide.
The University’s new logo can be seen on marketing and communications materials, on business cards, on the new website and in dozens of physical locations at both the Chicago and Schaumburg campuses. Some of the places where the new logo is most visible include: street-level windows of the University’s Auditorium Building; giant banners, flags and signage at both campuses; and on podiums at both campuses where President Middleton will give his annual State of the University address on Tuesday, Jan. 26 in Schaumburg and on Wednesday, Jan. 27 in Chicago.
In addition, dozens of promotional items with Roosevelt’s new logo will be handed out from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Jan. 25 as students make their way to their first day of spring-semester classes in the University’s main lobbies in Chicago and Schaumburg.
Roosevelt University, a national leader in educating socially conscious citizens, is a private, student-centered university with 7,300 students studying at comprehensive campuses in the Chicago Loop and Northwest suburban Schaumburg and online.
