The aching, lush, dramatic, and at times odd beauty of Samuel Barber and Richard Strauss's vocal compositions are featured. A sampling of their signature works, the program includes each composer's take on a "Mad Scene" (Barber's Nuvoletta and Strauss's Drei Lieder der Ophelia) and benchmark compositions (Barber's Knoxville: Summer of 1915 and Strauss's Vier Letzte Lieder).

This concert is free and open to the public.
