New Deal Service Days 2012

This spring marks the 10th anniversary of New Deal Service Days, Roosevelt’s annual community service program. Service is not something that happens once a year at Roosevelt; it is ingrained in the fabric of our institution and happens every day. The work that our students, faculty, staff, and alumni do in our communities is deep and transformative, and extends far beyond a traditional sense of service as helping out or giving back. We examine issues of social justice in and out of the classroom and we bring a unique lens and strengths to the role we play in communities.

This year our service will be rooted in the complex issues of food insecurity and hunger. Building on partnerships with Feeding AmericaGreater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD), Chicago Lights Urban Farm, CEDA Northwest, and Wheeling Township Food Pantry, we invite you to participate in this service campaign in three ways:

  • Learn - Understand the impact of hunger in our communities
  • Serve - Volunteer to support food distribution and urban garden projects
  • Advocate - Contact your legislator to promote anti-hunger policies and programs
